From Space Missions to Robotics, India Develops Indigenous Processors for Key Applications

India is designing and building its own indigenous microprocessors to reduce foreign dependency and ensure technological sovereignty.

Among the major indigenous processors are Dhruv64, SHAKTI, Vikram and AJIT, developed for applications ranging from strategic and industrial use to space missions, automation and robotics.

Dhruv64

Dhruv64 is a 1 GHz, 64-bit dual-core chip built by C-DAC using the open-source RISC-V architecture. It has been developed for strategic and industrial use.

SHAKTI

SHAKTI is a series of open-source processors created through the SHAKTI Processor Program at IIT Madras. IIT Madras also leads India's indigenous 7 nm processor initiative.

Vikram

Vikram is a radiation-tolerant 32-bit chip developed by ISRO. It is designed to power launch vehicles and space missions.

AJIT

AJIT is a low-cost processor developed by IIT Bombay for local automation, traffic controls and robotics.
